The Dope Bird performances were a departure from our previous work. Much of it was improvised…responding to the legacy of Byron, the Abbey, the house and the grounds. Dope Bird occured regardless of whether there were visitors present or not…it was characterised by its slow pace…visitors happened upon us…or caught glimpses of us…Dope Bird may happen again...it is an idea…a state of mind…tragic and romantic. Dope Bird is ’the self reflected’…Dope Bird is Nature's indifference to humanity…

Hedley Villas Park Consultation Day press release NuUrbanGardeners On Saturday March 2nd dressed in their regulation blue overalls, cloth caps, and ties, Head Gardeners/artists Chris Lewis-Jones and Simon Withers will facilitate an interactive design project as part of Sherwood Rise Residents’ Public Consultation Day in Hedley Villas Park. They have been invited to facilitate an activity to help generate ideas and stimulate conversation. The Association is raising money to refurbish this well-used and well-loved park, and the Nu-Urban Gardeners’ activity is just one of several on offer. The NUGs will invite members of the public to make mini parks on the top tray of a hostess trolley. They will do this using real soil and herbs, and also toys and found objects. Each garden will be photographed and the most striking designs will be posted onto the Nu-Urban Gardeners’ and Sherwood Rise Residents’ Association websites. In their work at live art festivals, galleries and theatres during the past three years (and at Primary Studio) the NUGs have explored what they call ‘an active engagement with the idea of landscape’. Before the event, the artists will discuss the aspirations of the organisers and park users, explore the geography of the park and familiarise themselves with its planting schedule, ecology, its natural and horticultural flora (and fauna) and its social significance and (evolving) history. The event, which is free and open to all, will take place at Hedley Villas Park, Nottingham NG7 7BN on Saturday 2nd March between 12.30-3.00 pm and is a Sherwood Rise Residents’ Association commission. For further info contact NUGS (Contact page) |

The Nu-Urban Gardeners will be ‘on duty’ from about 11.00 am until about 4.00 pm. NVA ISSUE No.7 (pg25)
