NUG TRUMPS
Edition 1 (Gardeners)
Pack of 32 Trump Cards
December 2016

The idea of a pack of trump cards came to me when I first visited a former infants school that had recently closed. I was visiting the building as the site for new artists studios. Upon the closure of the school the detritus remaining in the classrooms and scattered around the halls, corridors and offices included paper and craft based materials. I had the opportunity to revisit the school for a few hours one morning and to take away things I thought would be useful. One of the items were a quantity of blank playing cards...I always intended to do something with these cards but I never got around to using them...ideas for their use came to mind...a tarot pack, an artists pack of playing cards, a sculptural item such as a card tower or some trump cards...the last in this list persisted...
I began to research the list of gardeners...far too many for me to use for this project. I began to read up on each and every one of those chosen (frequently reading material not about gardening). Without exception (after reading about these gardeners) my admiration for all of them developed. All have excelled in their craft...all are dedicated, hard working and knowledgeable...for those I have encountered through the mediums of television and radio these celebrity gardeners have frequently kept me entertained, informed and held my interest...some of these personalities I grew up with...and my research reminded me of an individual's lasting impression upon me. I would say that returning to the work of Geoff Hamilton is one name in particular...I loved his style. The material on these cards has been drawn from information that I have found on line...quotations may not be the 'definitive' quote from these gardeners...and in the case of Alan Titchmarsh...when I came upon the quote it made me laugh...so I knew I had to use it...thank you Alan...your a gem...
I hope those here present do not feel insulted by information within this pack...that is my intention...respect to you all...indeed to gardeners everywhere...Salute!
